The JSS helps Jewish high school seniors or students who fit the below requirements:

Student Status: Is enrolled in an undergraduate, post-undergraduate, or technical school with demonstrated financial need. Graduate students are encouraged to apply and are assessed independently.

Residency: Must have lived for 2+ years in Allegheny, Beaver, Butler, Lawrence, Washington, or Westmoreland counties. Dependent students use parents’ residency. Students who move here for school must live independently for two years. FAFSA rules determine independent status.

Financial Need: Considered based on income, family size, and number of siblings in college. Generally not available to families in which the custodial parent earns over 5× the federal poverty level or has more than $250,000 in investable assets, though exceptions may be made for extenuating circumstances.

For residents of other counties:

– Residents of Clarion, Crawford, Erie, Lawrence, Mercer or Venango counties are only eligible to apply for the Sarah and Tena Goldstein Memorial Scholarship.

– Residents of Lawrence County: If your parents/grandparents are/were members of Temple Hadar Israel in New Castle, you may be eligible to apply for the Marianne Hess Scholarship Endowment Fund.

Please note:

– All funding sources require students to demonstrate financial need. Depending on the scholarship fund, factors such as academic achievement, field of study, and school attending will be taken into consideration. Jewish and general community involvement will also be considered.

– When students apply for aid, the scholarship committee matches the students with the funding source or sources for which they qualify.
