July News at JFCS

Dear Friends,

We have experienced a sobering few weeks. First, we extend our sincere condolences to the Venezuelan community. The devastating earthquakes last week left us heartbroken. Our counseling services remain available to those who may be impacted by this tragedy and in need of support.

Last Thursday, the Supreme Court issued a ruling that would allow the federal administration to end temporary legal protections for more than 350,000 Haitian and Syrian immigrants. Without these protections, many of our hardworking neighbors will lose their authorization to work and could be deported.

JFCS remains committed to supporting our neighbors, especially during this time of fear and uncertainty. We’ve created a suite of emergency preparedness resources in multiple languages at jfcspgh.org/resources. In addition, we are offering individualized support to help families complete their emergency preparedness documentation.

Please join us in supporting our neighbors whose futures are uncertain:

  • Share helpful resources, including those available at jfcspgh.org/resources
  • Volunteer to assist affected families by helping them prepare essential documentation in the event of detention or deportation. Register at jfcspgh.org/volunteer
  • Contact your members of Congress to advocate for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) to be extended

We are closely monitoring changes to federal policies and practices that impact a wide range of community members, from those receiving SNAP and Medicaid benefits to unaccompanied minors and those with TPS. We are deeply honored to do this work with you, our community, and are grateful for your continued support. Together, we can foster a community where everyone is welcomed and valued.

With gratitude,

Jordan Golin

President & CEO

Moving Forward Together: Growth Through Support

JFCS is grateful to United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania (UWSWPA) for their generous support of our innovative programming designed to help individuals move toward long-term financial stability. This work focuses on reducing barriers that prevent people from securing and maintaining employment. We look forward to sharing more about this program as it gets underway.

We are also pleased to share that United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania has awarded a generous multi-year grant to AgeWell Pittsburgh, a collaboration among the Jewish Association on Aging, Jewish Community Center, and JFCS. This funding will help the collaboration meet the basic needs of older adults and their family caregivers in our community by ensuring access to nutritious food, meaningful social connections, and essential support services. You can learn more about this grant here.

Thank you to United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania for their meaningful partnership and for the impact they have in strengthening our community.

Looking Ahead to Critical Needs Day

On August 4th, 2026, The Pittsburgh Foundation will host the #ONEDAY Critical Needs Alert, a community-wide day of giving that supports 200+ nonprofits in Allegheny and Westmoreland counties that serve vulnerable populations.

We hope you will support JFCS Pittsburgh in providing stability, dignity, and care to our neighbors. Together, we can continue to keep our community strong and thriving.
