A Letter from JFCS CEO and President Dr. Jordan Golin on #OneDay

Friends,

In the last several months, COVID-19 has taken a terrible toll on our community. Many of our neighbors have directly been affected by serious illness and death. The pandemic has also created significant financial difficulties for many members of our community.

As a result of business closures and layoffs, record numbers of people are struggling to pay for basic necessities, including food, utilities, and housing. In the social services world, we call these necessities “critical needs.”

Those of us who are more fortunate during these difficult times may be looking for ways to help our neighbors.

The Pittsburgh Foundation is holding its annual #OneDay Critical Needs Alert, this Wednesday, August 19th. I invite all of you to go to pittsburghgives.org and see all of the worthwhile organizations that could use your support during this difficult time, including of course JFCS (jfcspgh.org/onedayjfcs).

For those of us who have been incredibly fortunate during this crisis, Critical Needs Day is an opportunity to help those who have been less fortunate. I hope you will join me in sharing our good fortune with our neighbors.

Thank you,
