Halloween Treats: Squirrel Hill Food Pantry Healthy Recipe Series

Healthy Recipes: Halloween Treats!  Get in the Halloween spirit by making these spooky treats! Not for the Trick or Treaters, perhaps, but ideal (and healthy) for parties!

Pumpkin Vegetable Tray: Simply place a dip into two small containers for the eyes and set those on a large plate. Then make a circle out of carrots. Use celery sticks for the stem, olives for the nose, and cut cucumbers for the mouth! Try adding in a variation of vegetables around the edge of the plate!

Cheese Witches Brooms:
Using 12 slices of cheese, 12 pretzel sticks, and 12 fresh chives, fold each cheese slice and cut the fringes of the broom using a pair of scissors. Finally, wrap some cheese around the stick and use the chive to knot it around!

Spider Bites: You will need 1 (12 oz) package of semisweet chocolate chips, ½ cup of creamy peanut butter, and 6 cups of pretzel sticks. Place parchment paper on baking sheet and set aside. In a large glass microwave-safe bowl combine chocolate chips and peanut butter. Melt on high for 2 to 3 minutes and stir until smooth. Stir in pretzel sticks and with clean hands, grab pretzel sticks and drop on prepared baking sheet in clusters to look like spiders. Place in freezer for 5 minutes or until to chocalate is hardened. Remove and serve.
