Squirrel Hill Farmers Market is open!

The Farmer’s Market season is officially open! Come and visit the JFCS Squirrel Hill Food Pantry booth at the Squirrel Hill Farmers Market every Sunday, rain or shine, from 9:00AM – 1:00PM. You can learn more about the Pantry, engage in some kid-friendly activities, and/or donate fresh produce for our clients!

Did you know that Just Harvest’s Fresh Access program enables Farmers Market shoppers to use their food stamps – as well as credit and debit cards – to buy fresh, nutritious, and locally-grown food? Just Harvest, along with Pittsburgh Citiparks and participating local farmers, launched Fresh Access in May of 2013. The program now operates at a total of 21 locations in Allegheny County.

At Just Harvest’s red market tent (look for Fresh Access signs), shoppers can swipe their ACCESS electronic benefit transfer (EBT) cards  or their credit or debit cards and receive tokens to use just like cash. The tokens can be spent on a variety of fresh produce, baked goods, meat and dairy products. Tokens are accepted by dozens of vendors and the list is always growing. Just Harvest is working hard to end hunger by expanding access to fresh, healthy food for everybody!

We can also use volunteers for the Farmers Market Sundays – a great family activity! Interested in learning more about the Food Pantry at the Squirrel Hill Farmer’s Market? For more information, please contact our Program Assistant, Arielle Kroser, at akroser@jfcspgh.org.
