September: Food Pantry volunteer of the month

We live in a world in which we need to share responsibility.
It’s easy to say, “It’s not my child, not my community, not my world,
not my problem.”  Then there are those who see the need and respond.
I consider those people my heroes.” – Fred Rogers

It’s time for another Volunteer of the Month! There are so many dedicated volunteers it’s hard to choose one, but this month we wanted to highlight David! David has been volunteering at the Pantry for more than 8 years.

David shared with us the reasons he continues to volunteer year after year:

“It’s energizing to be in a position where I’m interacting with people who are in such need and I’m able to help them feel more secure and comfortable. It’s hard to put into words because it’s mostly emotional.

Whether it’s making shopping a little easier for a senior immigrant, or helping a client at their very first shopping experience who might be nervous and putting them at ease, all of our clients are sharing their personal lives and the challenges they face with us. I’m just so grateful to our clients and it’s an honor to help them.

I’ve also had an opportunity to meet so many other wonderful volunteers, people I never would have met otherwise. They really are a great group of people.”

Thank you David, for your many years of service. We look forward to seeing you every time, and we’re grateful for your friendship and dedication!
