In January 2020, JFCS received a grant from The Heinz Endowments through the Just Arts program for the Awaken Home Project, led by artist Blaine Siegel. The project aims to match recently arrived refugees with local artists and artisans who will create artwork for the families’ homes.
This past week, photographer Njaimeh Nije delivered her finished artwork to the Kachale family, a refugee family from DRC that arrived one year ago! She used fabric patterns from Tanzania to create a beautiful multimedia piece for their home, as well as a photo booklet containing portraits of the family.
We can’t wait to see what the rest of the artists create for our refugee families!
