Growing families through adoption and foster care

For more than 17 years, Family Hope Connection (FHC) of Jewish Family & Children’s Service (JF&CS) has completed hundreds of adoptions and helped individuals and families throughout our community with a multitude of services and resources. FHC is a licensed adoption and foster care agency dedicated to placing children in permanent and loving homes. In addition to working with children in need of permanency services, experienced FHC staff work with birth parents, families considering adoption and families who have adopted and need ongoing support. FHC helps families and adoptive children adjust to new challenges and strengthen relationships, and assists with making connections to additional community resources to meet the new needs of growing families.

FHC also provides extensive post-adoption services and support that can help families and adoptive children adjust to challenges and strengthen relationships, and can include counseling and connections to additional community resources. Additional support is available through JF&CS’s Squirrel Hill Psychological Services (SHPS).

Pennsylvania also has the Statewide Adoption and Permanency Network (SWAN) that works with the Pennsylvania Adoption Exchange (PAE) to assist waiting children in finding permanent and loving homes. Since its inception, FHC has been a SWAN affiliate and frequently places children through SWAN with waiting families. Oftentimes, post-adoption support services can be provided free of charge if a family contacts SWAN for support and asks for FHC.

Additionally, FHC’s knowledgeable, non-judgmental and compassionate staff works with birth mothers and fathers to explore and understand all options and offer support, regardless of which option a birth family chooses. Birth parent services include counseling, resource referrals and adoptive family search support.

Adoption is a life-changing experience for everyone involved, and the experienced staff at FHC provides compassionate support and expert guidance needed to strengthen families throughout the community.
