The JFCS Squirrel Hill Food Pantry recently had a successful pop-up event in partnership with the JCC Senior Lunch Program. Over 130 strawberries and blueberries were distributed at the event to 66 seniors, along with jar grippers and adult MyPlates (which provide information about nutrition and food groups). The event was also a great opportunity for conversation and community building.
With the delay of voucher distribution from the Farmers Market Nutrition Program, seniors have been impacted in their ability to get access to fresh produce. Typically, this program allows low-income senior citizens to purchase fresh produce from local farmer markets with a set of given vouchers. To help meet the need until the vouchers are able to be distributed, we partnered with JAA Mollie’s Meals kosher MOW program, JAA Riverview towers seniors residential, and JCC Senior Lunch program to distribute fresh seasonal produce.
The JCC senior lunch program is a great initiative that provides nutritious Kosher meals to Allegheny County residents who are over 60, through the AgeWell Pittsburgh program. This program runs from Monday through Friday, from 11 am to 1 pm. It is an excellent opportunity for seniors to enjoy a healthy meal and socialize with others in the community.
If you are interested in signing up for this program, we recommend visiting the following link: https://jccpgh.org/adults-2/j-cafe-kosher-lunch-squirrel-hill/ where you will be able to get more information about the program and sign up if you meet the eligibility criteria.
Please note that this program is only available to Allegheny County residents who are over 60 and are part of the AgeWell Pittsburgh program. Please call the AgeWell Pittsburgh contact number to learn more about senior programs in your area — (412) 422-0400.
We encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity and sign up for the JCC Senior Lunch program if you meet the eligibility criteria. It is a great way to enjoy a nutritious meal and meet other seniors in your community.
