Did You Know the JFCS Squirrel Hill Food Pantry Distributes Safety Resources?

Our food pantry routinely distributes safety resources to community members, especially around holidays. Towards the end of this month, many Jewish community members will be celebrating Passover – a holiday that includes lighting candles and cooking up a storm! To help prepare our community for a happy and safe holiday, we are distributing fire safety information throughout the month of March. We have included smoke alarm safety tips and a Home Fire Safety Survey from the National Fire Protection Association.

We have also created a Passover Fire Safety “cheat sheet” with tips on candle safety, preparing the kitchen, and preparing for Seder. Here’s a final tip: although the City of Pittsburgh Fire Bureau has put its free smoke detector installation program on hold due to COVID-19, households are still able to call 311 Response Center or the Fire Bureau at (412) 255-2863 to see if they are eligible for the program and to be put on a waiting list for when the program resumes. This month and always, happy and safe cooking, everyone!
