Career Development Center helps Pittsburgh’s unemployed

For many unemployed individuals looking for work in the current job market, the search can seem overwhelming and disheartening. Local and national unemployment numbers that were recently released this month show minimal change, and for those who are out-of-work, whether the percentage points move up or down does little to change their immediate situation.

At JF&CS’s Career Development Center (CDC), we’re here for those who are unemployed and looking for work, as well as those who want to make a career change. So many job seekers go into the job search process thinking that they can do it on their own, but quickly realize that it’s very difficult to successfully sell themselves to prospective employers.

Last Friday, Channel 11 News featured a segment focusing on the human side of the unemployment numbers, and interviewed CDC career consultant Betty Berkely and CDC client Susan Kinger. Click below to view the segment and listen to a brief clip of Betty and Susan’s interviews.

If you are out of work and looking for a new job, or know someone who is, please contact the CDC today. You may qualify for free services under one of the many contracts the CDC holds, and for those who don’t, services are available on a sliding fee scale based upon your ability to pay. Our average length of time to find employment is less than half the time than it is without help, in comparison to the national average of eight to twelve months. Let us help you get back to work more quickly.

Our CDC staff work with job-seeking individuals of all ages and with varying levels of experience to help them find employment and build careers, even in the difficult and competitive job climate so many are currently facing. A CDC career consultant can help individuals connect to job leads through career fairs, provide coaching to better prepare for interviews and offer advice and support to those who may be feeling discouraged with slow progress.

“The sooner you come into the Career Development Center, the better,” JF&CS COO and Career Development Center Director Linda Ehrenreich advises. “You don’t want to burn your bridges with prospective employers before you’re prepared.”

The CDC’s staff of professional career consultants is committed to helping jobseekers navigate the job search process and providing resources and support, and we work to ensure our clients are able to find employment and build careers in our region – whether a client has just graduated from college, or is a mature worker looking for a new opportunity.
