2017 Retrospective and 2018 Preview

Top 2 things we’re glad to leave behind in 2017:

1. Paper intakes – Finally! After years and years of keeping track of data by hand, we are now able to utilize technology not only to give our clients a smoother intake experience, but also to make reporting much easier.

2. Our old name – The pantry is one of many departments of Jewish Family and Community Services (JFCS) providing critical services to community members in need. We are proud to be a more identifiable part of this incredible agency, being known henceforth as JFCS Squirrel Hill Food Pantry.

Top 3 Things We’re Excited to Continue in 2018:

1. Unlimited Produce – Since last  summer, clients have been able to load their grocery bags with as much produce as they like. Gone are our limits of 1 each/2 each/3 each/4 each.

2. Shopping carts – Thanks to the generosity of one of our long-time donors, our clients who walk or take a bus to the pantry are now able to transport their groceries home in their very own shopping cart.

3. Special distributions – We need your help for this one. 2017 had many special distribution highlights including fruit and veggie prep kits, birthday bags, lasagnas, cold care kits, snack packs, winter coats and accessories, food drives, and holiday specific gifts. We could not have distributed these items without the help of community members and partners like you. We hope to partner with you again in 2018 to meet the diverse needs of our clients!
