Elder & Senior Care

Your aging loved one may want to remain at home, but things are getting tougher.

You're worried that your mom or dad isn't eating correctly, taking medication or getting out and socializing. You want your loved one to be as independent as possible, but you need to ensure his or her safety and comfort. That's where JF&CS comes in.

We are a trusted name for quality services to the elderly and are staunch advocates and protectors of our clients' well-being. Whether in the home or in an institutional setting, our staff helps improve the quality of life for the elderly.

Whether you are local or are trying to manage the special challenges of caring for your loved one long-distance, JF&CS can help you navigate the plethora of available resources and confusing array of benefits and to cope with the stress of managing your own family, work and caring for your aging parent or relative.

Information and Referral

JF&CS is part of AgeWell Pittsburgh, a collaboration of three agencies offering a number of services for senior adults. One call to the AgeWell Pittsburgh Information and Referral line at JF&CS puts you in contact with a knowledgeable specialist who will help you get the service and support you need—from AgeWell partner agencies or through other community resources.

Home Care Coordination

Research shows that older adults are happier and healthier when they stay in their own homes. But to do so, most eventually need help. How much and what kind can vary, sometimes daily, and it can be an overwhelming challenge to know exactly what to do and where to get help. Our professional geriatric care coordinators are trained to assess, plan, coordinate, monitor and provide services for older adults, their families and caregivers. JF&CS offers both a Comprehensive Care Coordination program, for which clients pay one, low monthly fee; and care coordination services on an hourly basis.

Counseling & Support Groups

Aging presents challenges that can be overwhelming for everyone involved. For aging adults, it might be a growing mental infirmity, the death of a spouse or the loss of independence. For adult children, it may be the stress of juggling the care of an older parent with the demands of families and jobs. Our professional staff—licensed clinical social workers, psychologists and consulting geriatric psychiatrist—are adept at addressing the psychological challenges of aging.

Often the hardest part of caregiving is getting your loved one to accept help—from you or from professionals. Family/sibling dynamics may also be a problem. JF&CS's geriatric care coordinators have extensive experience in working with families to address "difficult" issues and help put together a well-thought-out plan for your aging loved one based on the needs and wishes of those who will be receiving care and of family members.
