Legal Assistance for New Arrivals

JFCS Immigration Legal Services provides attorneys and accredited representatives for free or at nominal cost to individuals seeking legal immigration related assistance in several areas of family- and humanitarian-based immigration applications and petitions, as well as representing clients in removal proceedings.

Our attorneys and representatives are officially recognized by the Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA) and the Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR).

Legal immigrants seeking to become U.S. citizens face a long and thorough process that can be daunting, particularly for those whose English is limited.

How We Help

Our professional staff helps immigrants apply for citizenship, helps immigrants who have U.S. citizenship through their parents obtain a certificate of citizenship, and helps to replace citizenship certificates that have been lost, stolen or destroyed.

JFCS is able to assist residents of Southwestern PA with family reunification. US citizens or permanent residents can act as an Anchor/Petitioner to bring their relatives to the US through regular immigration channels. Please complete this form and a staff member will contact you.

JFCS Immigration Legal Services helps immigrants reunite with family members in the U.S.

How We Help

We help green card holders and U.S. citizens apply to bring their relatives and/or fiance(e)s to live and work in the United States, and help conditional permanent residents apply for their permanent green card.

Refugees and Asylees must have proper documentation to work in the U.S. and travel abroad.

How We Help

Our staff helps refugees and asylees apply for permanent residence, permission to travel abroad and to start the petitions to bring relatives to the United States, dependent on current U.S. Immigration laws.

Minor children arriving in the United States without parents or legal guardians may be eligible for legal assistance.

Some situations are unique, including incidents of medical emergency and domestic violence. There are also special immigration programs, such as DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals).

How We Help

We help individuals apply for or renew Temporary Protected Status, renew visitor visas in the event of medical emergency, help victims of domestic violence apply to keep the permanent residence status they may have gained through marriage, and provide information to victims of violent crimes or human trafficking so that they understand their rights and options.
