Jobseekers won’t want to miss this upcoming WorkAble career fair

WorkAble, a partnership of the Career Development Center of JF&CS, North Hills Community Outreach (NHCO), South Hills Interfaith Ministries (SHIM) and the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh will hold a career fair for adults throughout the region on Thursday, October 1 from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Bethel Park Community Center, located at 5151 Park Avenue in Bethel Park (15102).

Launched in the fall of 2012 and supported by the United Way of Allegheny County, now part of the United Way of Southwestern PA, WorkAble is a county-wide employment and critical needs service for struggling adults. WorkAble serves unemployed and underemployed individuals throughout Allegheny County at NHCO sites in Allison Park, Millvale and Bellevue, SHIM offices in Bethel Park, the Oakland location of the Carnegie Library and JF&CS offices in Squirrel Hill.

The upcoming career fair will include employers from Allegheny County, Allegheny Health Network, the Caregiver Connection program of JF&CS, Highmark Health, St. Clair Hospital, UPMC and others.

The career fair is appropriate for all levels of professional experience and available positions range from entry level to director level. Available positions include jobs primarily in the healthcare fields, and additionally those in administration, finance and customer service, among other opportunities. Attendees can expect to meet one-on-one with recruiters for brief in-person interviews.

“The upcoming career fair is a wonderful opportunity for job seekers who are looking at careers in the healthcare fields, or someone who may already have a job in this area and is looking for advancement opportunities,” said Patrick Ferraro, employer relations coordinator at the Career Development Center. “What sets our career fairs apart is the opportunity for one-on-one meetings with recruiters and representatives. That doesn’t happen at your typical career fair, and it’s a way to help open up doors with employers.”

Individuals wishing to attend the career fair are encouraged to dress professionally, bring multiple copies of their resume and research employers and available positions beforehand. Attendees should be prepared to discuss specific positions that they have found and applied to online in advance.

Those wishing to attend the career fair must register in advance by calling 412-854-9120 x 107. Those who are struggling and need assistance can call the WorkAble hotline at 412-904-5993 or visit www.workableac.com.
