JF&CS recognized for excellence in nonprofit management

Jewish Family & Children’s Service was recently honored with the 2013 Alfred W. Wishart Jr. Award for Excellence in Nonprofit Management by The Forbes Funds.

The Wishart Award is given to a local nonprofit human service or community development organization that has demonstrated a sustained commitment to excellence in management and governance. The award is presented bi-annually at the Greater Pittsburgh Nonprofit Partnership’s annual Nonprofit Summit to one nonprofit organization in western Pennsylvania demonstrating excellence in best practices, overall management and leadership in the region.

JF&CS was among two other finalists for this year’s award; Community Human Services and Familylinks.

Aryeh Sherman, CEO of JF&CS, proudly accepted the award in front of an audience of about 800 individuals representing the nonprofit and foundation communities.

“It is humbling to be recognized and honored with the Wishart Award among our peers in the nonprofit community. We could not achieve what we do at JF&CS without the hard work and dedication of our staff and board, the collaboration of our partners and the steadfast support of our community,” he said.

The winning organization must have demonstrated leadership among the staff and board of directors, use of information and objective analysis in planning and programming, a commitment to excellence in human resource management, continuous improvement of service delivery processes, measurement and monitoring of outcomes, a commitment to consumer satisfaction, openness to collaborative efforts with other organizations, and accountability to the public trust. The winning organization is publicly honored for its achievements and receives a cash grant to be used for management support purposes.

The Wishart Award honors and recognizes the most accomplished nonprofit organizations, and JF&CS now joins a prestigious list of prior honorees, including North Hills Community Outreach, Pace School, Family Services of Western PA, Auberle, Bethlehem Haven, Human Services Center Corporation, ACTION-Housing, Inc., The Greater Pittsburgh Literacy Council and The Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank.

Recognition for doing good work is a testament to our commitment to changing lives for the better, and through the work of our board and staff, our community partners and supporters, we’ve been able to provide the innovative and effective service our community needs, and will continue to do so every day.
