Happening at the Food Pantry in May!

Shavuot Workshop at Sally and Howard Levin Clubhouse

On May 21, the food pantry will be hosting our third cooking workshop at the Sally and Howard Levin Clubhouse. We will be teaching the history and significance of Shavuot alongside a cooking demonstration on mini cheesecakes and a nutrition education lesson on sugar and moderation. Participants will receive a whisk, measuring cups, a 12-count muffin tray, and a meal kit to make their very own mini cheesecakes! Our program assistant, Samantha Monks, will be recording the cooking demonstration which will then be posted to YouTube, so keep a look out for that video later this month!

Spotlight on Extra Pantry Items this Month!

This month, the food pantry is providing extra bags of apples and oranges to clients to increase community access to fresh fruit. We are also distributing the much-loved challah from Deena’s Dishes throughout the month of May! At the pantry we aim to diversify the foods we distribute as much as possible to increase the nutritional value of each and every visit to the pantry.

New Freezer & Storage

Thanks to a generous grant from the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, we were able to purchase a brand new freezer for our pantry space. Now we’re able to have Kosher and Non-Kosher freezers in both the front and back of the pantry room. We also obtained some extra storage shelves to help us serve even more people in our community!
