Gifts to struggling families make all the difference this holiday season

Earlier this month, we asked our community to consider donating to the children and families of our Squirrel Hill Community Food Pantry, the refugee department at Jewish Family & Children’s Service and Family Hope Connection, the adoption division of JF&CS. Despite how overwhelming these last few weeks of December can be, our community responded to the call in great numbers.

At SHCFP, food items, cookies, canned goods and small gifts have been donated to clients at the Pantry, and last week one generous donor dropped off winter coats, books and chocolates for clients. After recognizing the amount of need for clients and their children this holiday season, the donor returned that same afternoon with an additional 50 children’s winter coats!

Additionally, our lobby and hallways are overflowing with many donated items of coats, winter accessories, home goods, children’s items, toys and much, much more for the families and children served by our refugee department, as well as children at Family Hope Connection. Our staff are currently sorting through all of the wonderful items and gifts to ensure they get to children and families as quickly as possible.

We can’t thank our community members enough for this tremendous response to our call for donations and the display of generosity we’ve witnessed. All of the donations will be greatly appreciated and well-used by so many.

We are so grateful for the many gifts of volunteer time, money and donated items that enable us to provide services to the community, especially during the holidays.

Wishing a bright holiday season and a Happy New Year to all of our wonderful supporters!
