JFCS After School Mentor Training

February 25, 2018 @ 11:00 am - 2:00 pm

Refugees travel a long journey – often years – to finally be allowed to settle in the U.S. Children’s education can be sketchy or non-existent in refugee camps, so when they register for school in America, catching up while they learn a new language isn’t easy. The Crafton Heights After School Program seeks to bridge this gap by providing a free after school program (also open to American children living in the neighborhood) to help with homework, practice English, and be introduced to other youth activities. JFCS is recruiting volunteer mentors to assist in helping to staff this program.
The JFCS After School Mentor Training is required for volunteers interested in this program. Conducted by the Mentoring Partnership of Southwestern PA, volunteers will learn the basics of mentoring children and working with a very diverse youth group. Mentors will also be asked to attend future mentoring sessions, and acquire Act 33/34 clearances and have an FBI background check.Registration for this training is required. Interested volunteers should email Andrew Van Treeck (avantreeck@jfcspgh.org), or call him at 412-904-5790.
