Community Support for the Food Pantry

The Whole Mother Fricker

On April 2nd, over 200 friends and runners ran the annual “Mother Fricker,” Pittsburgh’s Greatest Trail Run, running through Frick Park! Each participant brought one non-perishable food donation to donate to the JFCS Squirrel Hill Food Pantry and a pair of shoes to donate to a homeless shelter.

Collectively, they donated a whopping 178 pounds of food to the Pantry! When asked why they organized this run, longtime community member Matt Pascal said they were “just a bunch of friends hoping to make a difference.”

J-Serve Day with the Pantry

J-Serve is an annual day of service for teens to give back to their communities in a global day of change. J-Serve Pittsburgh is planned every year by a teen steering committee of dedicated student leaders passionate about giving back to the community through service. This year, one of the events collaborated with JFCS Squirrel Hill Food Pantry to collect appropriate kosher foods for our clients. A member of their, an 11th grade student at Taylor Allderdice High School, helped set up a food drive for the pantry, and we are grateful for community driven youth!
