This fall, JF&CS again will sponsor two programs for interfaith families - one for interfaith couples and one for Jewish grandparents whose grandchildren are being raised in an interfaith family.

Our refugee resettlement and CDC staff worked together to arrange the refugees' initial placement and supervise their continued progress. Funded by a grant from the Allegheny County Department of Human Services Office of Community Services, JF&CS is able to pay the interns as they gain real-life job experience at 13 employment sites throughout the South Hills, downtown and Penn Hills.
Aug 3, 2010 - 233 students receive scholarships
More than $440,000 in scholarships were awarded to 233 area Jewish students for the 2010-11 academic year from Central Scholarship & Loan Referral Service (CSLRS) of the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh and the Sarah and Tena Goldstein Memorial Scholarship of Jewish Family & Children's Service.

We surveyed mature job seekers and learned that 89% were interested in computer training but feared not being able to keep up with those more knowledgeable and typically younger. To address this need, we are collaborating with the Community College of Allegheny County (CCAC) to provide a short, intensive, hands-on course targeting the mature job seeker.

Mar 17, 2010 - No one should go to bed hungry
For the 13th consecutive year, Rhode Island philanthropist Alan Shawn Feinstein has issued a challenge - dividing $1 million to match donations to agencies fighting hunger. During the months of March and April, gifts of money or food donations to the Pantry will count toward the Feinstein Challenge. This means that the more money and food drive donations we raise before the end of April, the larger percentage of the $1 million grant the Squirrel Hill Food Pantry receives.

Last year JF&CS introduced a monthly support group - Growing Together - to give family members of adults with special needs an opportunity to share mutually-needed information and emotional support. We've had a great response from the community since it started.

One particular story that has touched me and staff here at JF&CS is the courageous, devoted work of the McMutrie sisters and the BRESMA orphanage. We have received several calls from people throughout the community wishing to adopt the children or contribute to their well-being.
