Friends In Deed
An unfortunate but common side effect of aging is an increasing loss of mobility. And when mobility is impaired, there is an accompanying loss of independence substantially impacting an older adult's quality of life and increasing the risk of social isolation and vulnerability.
JF&CS's Friend in Deed program helps older adults maintain human and community connections and preserve independent lifestyles.
How We Help
- Regular visits to clients' homes provide warm interactions and human contact, preventing isolation and enabling monitoring of the health and safety of homebound and frail seniors.
- Older adult clients are paired with trained companions to assist with shopping and other tasks outside the home, including transportation to doctors' appointments and recreational opportunities.
- Services are available on a one-time or recurring basis.
Meet the People We Help
-

89-year-old Audrey* was legally blind and, until recently, able to manage fine on her own. When her neighbor noticed that she hadn't seen Audrey out and and about, she found that Audrey's age "finally caught" up with her. With Audrey's permission, she called AgeWell Pittsburgh for help.
