What is CSLRS?
The deadline for applying has passed. Students whose applications were submitted by the deadline may login to upload documents but no ADDITIONAL applications will be accepted.
The Central Scholarship & Loan Referral Service (CSLRS) of the United Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh (UJF) coordinates the efforts of a group of organizations, agencies, and scholarship endowment funds which provide scholarships to local Jewish students enrolled in an accredited institution of higher education. CSLRS is a program of the UJF and is administered by the Career Development Center of Jewish Family & Children's Service.
Central Scholarship's goal is to provide financial support to as many deserving students in our community as possible. Demonstrated financial need is a primary criterion in evaluating applicants and the financial information you provide is utilized in this process. This information is considered along with other pertinent facts such as family size and number of children/siblings in college. While we generally do not assist students with family incomes in excess of $100,000 or who have investable assets of over $250,000, exceptions may be made when there are extenuating family circumstances.
Who Qualifies?
Any Jewish high school senior, college or graduate student in our geographical area with financial need is eligible to apply. Individuals are known by number, not name, to ensure confidentiality. When a student applies for aid, the CSLRS committee matches the student with the funding source most likely to consider the application. All funding sources require students to demonstrate financial need. Call our office if you have questions about your eligibility (412) 422-5627.
All information provided to CSLRS is treated confidentially and is used to process applications, distribute grants, and to collect on previous loans. We will NEVER share your information.
Residency
Our geographical area includes Allegheny, Beaver, Butler, Washington and Westmoreland counties. Applicants must be a resident of this area for two years before applying.
Residents of Clarion, Crawford, Erie, Lawrence, Mercer and Venango counties are eligible only to apply for the Sarah & Tena Goldstein Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship is highly competitive. Contact our office for details, 412-422-5627.
