Meet Our Staff

Management Team - Administrative

Aryeh Sherman, MSW

President and CEO

Aryeh Sherman is the President and CEO of Jewish Family & Children's Service. He began his tenure in April of 1999.

He comes to Pittsburgh with over 25 years experience in the delivery and administration of social service programs in the areas of community based services for the elderly, refugee resettlement, family development, and career and vocational services. Some of his key positions include Field Representative in the Western Galilee of Israel for Save the Children Federation; Division Director for Vocational and Career Services of Jewish Employment and Vocational Service; and, Executive Director of Family Service of Philadelphia.

He has a bachelor's degree from Pennsylvania State University and a master's degree in social work from Temple University. He also did graduate work at the Hebrew University in sociology. Aryeh is a licensed Social Worker in the State of Pennsylvania.

Linda Ehrenreich

Chief Operating Officer

Linda Ehrenreich began working at JF&CS in 1984 when the Career Development Center was "born" and served as the Director of CDC for 15 years. Since that time, she has taken the role of Chief Operating Officer. Linda oversees several divisions of JF&CS including CDC, Pittsburgh Refugee & Immigrant Assistance Center and Central Scholarship. She is also responsible for program/project development and grant-writing for JF&CS and all its divisions; and serves on the executive committee of the JF&CS board of directors.

Prior to coming to JF&CS, Linda was Director of Human Resources for the Vocational Rehabilitation Center. Previous to that she was the Director of Counseling and Job Placement Services for a Department of Labor program in Pittsburgh. Linda serves on several other non-profit boards in Pittsburgh.

Linda has received several community awards including the Rudolf Award for Excellence in Jewish Communal Service, the Claudia Fogel Award for Exceptional Service, and nationally for the International Association of Jewish Vocational Services. She has served as vice president of the Association of Jewish Vocational Service Professionals.

Linda earned her bachelor's degree at the University of Wisconsin, her master's in vocational counseling at Duquesne University and a Post Graduate certificate in human resources management at the University of Pittsburgh, School of Business.

Cindy Paganico

Chief Financial Officer

Cindy Paganico is responsible for the overall operation of the Fiscal Department, including supervising staff, financial planning, budgeting, billing, human resources, quality control and reporting to outside auditors and the Board of Directors. Cindy, along with the fiscal staff, also has sole responsibility for the fiscal reporting of two other community agencies, Jewish Residential Services and Jewish Family Assistance Fund.

Cindy came to JF&CS with years of experience in the corporate world. She served in a variety of capacities relating to both internal and external auditing and financial operation for a major construction firm.

Cindy earned her bachelor's degree in accounting from West Virginia University and has done post graduate work at LaRoche College.

Laurie Gottlieb

Director, Marketing and Annual Fundraising

Laurie Gottlieb is the director of marketing and annual fundraising for JF&CS. In this capacity, she directs and oversees marketing and individual fundraising policies, objectives and initiatives for JF&CS and the agency's four divisions: Career Development Center, Family Hope Connection, Squirrel Hill Food Pantry and Squirrel Hill Psychological Services. This includes initiatives that increase awareness of the agency and its individual programs and services through advertising, public relations, marketing communications collateral and outreach.

Responsibilities also consist of all community fundraising initiatives for the agency including annual appeals for the agency and the Squirrel Hill Food Pantry, ongoing giving programs such as tribute cards and Food Pantry centerpieces and all special events.

Prior to joining JF&CS, Laurie worked in the for-profit sector, acting as marketing director for two different high technology companies in the Pittsburgh area. Before that, she did management consulting in D.C. for four years.

Laurie has bachelor's degrees in both business administration and applied mathematics/operations research from the Tepper School and Mellon College of Science, respectively, at Carnegie Mellon University and a master's in information science from the University of Pittsburgh. She sits on the board of directors of the National Council of Jewish Women and Tree of Life Congregation.

Warren Sufrin

Director of Information Technology

Warren Sufrin is the Director of Information Technology for Jewish Family & Children's Service. He is responsible for the overall operation of the agency's computer network, help desk and enterprise resource planning software, Unicentric.

Warren started his career writing software in the auto club industry. Upon completing the software, he went on to writing software for Blue Cross (Highmark). He was hired by Premiere Business Products as Assistant Manager of IT and was promoted to Manager and then Director of IT, where he had overall responsibility in 5 locations for IT operations, software and hardware on a 24 x 7 basis. Premiere later sold its operations and Warren became an independent consultant. His major client was the Allegheny County Area Agency on Aging, where he primarily wrote software to accomplish the needs of the Agency.

Warren holds a bachelor's degree in business administration, management information systems from Boston University.

Alice I. Vernon

Executive Secretary/Office Manager

Alice Vernon is the primary administrative support person to the Executive Vice President/CEO and the Chief Operating Officer. In her role as the Executive Secretary, Alice coordinates the flow of information from the Executive Vice President/CEO to the staff and Board; works directly with JF&CS Board of Directors as needed; coordinates meetings; prepares correspondence, reports, memos, etc.; and assists in the preparation of grants, contracts and special projects as needed. She supervises the clerical staff, organizes and expedites the flow of work through the office, maintains coverage for the switchboard and arranges for temporary clerical help as needed.

Alice is also responsible for the overall operation of the facility which includes the coordination of repairs, maintenance, utilities, telephones and office supplies.

Prior to joining the staff of JF&CS in 1991, Alice's employment history included Jewish Family Service of Los Angeles, California.
