ALLEGHENY COUNTY MEDICAL SOCIETY HONORS JF&CS FOR WORKPLACE DIVERSITY

During its annual meeting on January 12, 2008, the Allegheny County Medical Society (ACMS) presented Jewish Family & Children’s Service with the Community Workplace Diversity Award.  JF&CS executive director, Aryeh Sherman (right), accepted the award from Adam J. Gordon, MD, MPH (left), president of ACMS.  The award honors a person, group or organization from the community who has made an outstanding contribution in fostering workplace diversity in Western Pennsylvania.  In addition to providing services to immigrants and refugees from more than 70 countries, JF&CS is multicultural itself.  The agency employs individuals from Russia, Sri Lanka, Peru, Ukraine, South Africa, Scotland and Japan. More than 20 volunteers provide multi-lingual services at the program’s Welcome Center for Immigrants and Internationals. Collectively, these volunteers speak 15 languages.
